Mother’s Day 2017

I’m glad Mother’s Day crafts  are done!

Every Mother’s Day I take these heart shaped photos and get them printed either as 4×4 or 5×5 glossy or matte. This year, I realized that I could just print them on 4×6 and cut them out. Target had prints for .16 if shipped to home, unfortunately the quality of those photos were horrible. I opted for Shutterfly instead, which offered FREE printing through their app – you just need to pay for shipping. I printed 60 photos (for all three third grade classes) and the total came out to a little over 6 dollars.  The card idea came from Pinterest, but I can’t locate the original post – my apologies!

If you want to replicate these photos, I recommend a FREE IOS app called Body Symbol. I’m not sure if this app is available to Android. If not, don’t worry! There are tons of other similar apps. I chose this 3 x 4 heart because it comes out as a perfect square.  The app also allows you to make your own shapes, but I’ve never ventured into that option.

Things I learned while using this app:

  1. Pick a nice background! The first year I took pictures in my classroom with students work up as the background, which didn’t look great.
  2. If the student has siblings at the school, take pictures with them!
  3. Use props – the bigger the better
  4. If you have a lot of students to take pictures of, I recommend setting up some butcher paper in the classroom. Otherwise, the lighting outside will always be better.
  5. Send out the photos to print early and ship to home, there are cheaper options out there if you don’t wait last minute
  6. Have students dress up nicely for their photos
  7. Is the upgrade option worth it? I’m not sure, I upgraded – but I’ve used the app so much I felt I owed it to the creator to support the app =D
